You can reach Lecce in different ways:
Once in Lecce discover the town.
There are two international airports not far from Lecce:
Shuttles bus or train connections to Bari/Lecce are provided (see below).
Car rentals are available in the main Italian airports, including the airports of Brindisi and Bari. This could be a good idea if you wish to join a visit of the Salento and Apulia to the conference.

Note: the timetable is subject to change at any time; please, check it a few days before your departure. You can purchase the ticket on board the bus. The bus is grey and green, with the `SITA' logo, and usually leaves on the right of the main exit of the airport. In Lecce, the bus stops 100m from the Grand Hotel Tiziano, at the Lecce Airport City Terminal(open 7am - 2.30pm, phone: +39 0832 247882/ +39 0832 256124).

From Bari central railway station to Lecce:

Cost: 9 to 23 € depending on the train and travel options
Duration: ranging from 1 hour and a half to 2 hours and a half.
From Rome or Milan take a Eurostar (EC) or Intercity (IC) train; overnight trains are equipped with sleeper cars with couchettes or beds. It takes about 6 hours to reach Lecce from Rome and 10 hours from Milan by train.

Urban transport system in Lecce
Once you have arrived in Lecce, there are several buses that connect the Lecce Station (Stazione FF SS) and the City terminal to the city centre. Bus tickets can be bought both in the station bar and at the City terminal’s info point.
Nonetheless, the city centre is at a reasonable walking distance from both.

Aims, objectives, location and articulation
The aim of the Summer School is to bring students in the humanities closer to a technical-scientific approach to language analysis and to provide students in technology the opportunity to understand the need for in-depth knowledge of linguistic information in order to work in speech technology.
The application must be submitted no later than May 27 2022, by filling the attached template (please use the file "Facsimile_domanda.pdf"; its content is translated in the file "Translation_facsimile_domanda.docx") and sending it to the following address:
The application must be signed by the applicant in original, under penalty of exclusion, and sent together with a copy of a valid ID, curriculum vitae and a short letter of self-presentation and motivation.

Participants will be selected based on the following criteria:
Only applications from applicants who have attested, including through self-declaration, a level of English language proficiency that corresponds, as a minimum, to level B1 of the CEFR will be evaluated.
The evaluation of applications for admission to the School will be carried out by a Commission, appointed by the Director of the Department and composed of three internal members of the University of Salento.
The list of those admitted will be published on the University's institutional website https://www.unisalento.it in the section "Notices and Competitions - Training Projects." This fulfills the notification requirements (Article 8 of Law No. 241/90).
The school is addressed to students and young graduates in humanities or in technology who want to get to know the world of speech technologies. Participants may be:
There are 30 places available, 15 of which are reserved for students from the University of Salento. In order to ensure social inclusion and real gender equality, 2 places will be reserved for disabled people and equal participation of all gender components will be ensured. If the number of reserved places is not reached, the available places can be allocated to other participants.
Selection will take place on the basis of a curriculum vitae et studiorum (European CV format) and a motivation letter. A minimum level of knowledge of English is required, also attested by self-declaration (minimum level B1 of CEFR). At equal evaluation, the order of application (date of submission) will be taken into consideration.
The school foresees 50 hours of activities (40 of activities during the school and 10 for the realization of a final report) and the recognition of 2 CFU. The list of the University of Salento courses that will acknowledge the CFUs will be provided by mid May on the Summer School web page provided by CEDAT 85 (https://www.aisv.it/summerschools).
Participation to the school is free of charge. Participants will be partially reimbursed for travel expenses (with the exception of those who are domiciled within the province of Lecce) and will not have to pay for lunches during the school. Attendance is compulsory. A final certificate will be issued to the participants.
